Fire Extinguishers - Foam

Aqueous Film-Forming Foam

AFFF fire fighting systems were created in the 1960’s. Foam fire extinguishers are designed to fight Class A and also Class B fires. Foam extinguishers are not recommended for Class C or electrical fires due to the electrical hazards that exist. These extinguishers work by creating a thin film layer which blocks out oxygen and also keeps the water from draining too fast. A local firefighter once said, “It makes water wetter.”
